Dear Old Dad

Meeting in the Winter

The old man had a meeting to go to and he was pleasantly surprised. It was extremely cold outside even though there was no snow down on the ground yet. He cam into the hall, where the meeting was to be and he was pleasantly surprised to see a fireplace with a good sized fire contained within. There was no crackling of the logs or smell of smoke because the fire was not real. It was a gas fire. But the fire was warm and the flame danced a lot faster than a natural fire.

He thought back to Christmas from years that have gone by when his family would have the television on and they listened to music and watched the yule log burn. He thinks of the Christmas yet to come and dreams of a crackling fireplace with calming music being played as he sits in his chair with his dog in front of him curled up on a rug asleep. Beside the old man, on a small table would be the Book that he is reading and a cup of tea. Over the mantle would be a painting or art project that speaks more to his heart. Life is a lot simpler and he spends more time enjoying less in life. He has realized that it is not the quantity of things that he has but the thoughts that goes through his mind.

As Christmas approaches, he thinks about all the small children that smile at this time of year and when simple things were appreciated so much more.

Thoughts of Christmas

Christmas ornaments from years ago that are hung on a tree,
a manger set up to remind us why we celebrate the season,
lights trimming the home,
people we love that are near to us,
children playing outside,
cookies on a plate,
candy in a bowl,
presents by the tree,
frost on the windows,
snow outside,
got cocoa being made on the stove,
crackling fire in the fireplace,
music being played setting the mood

What to give at Christmas

Years ago it was easy to figure out what a boy wanted for Christmas
Now it is not so easy
My son is no longer a boy and I am far from being one
I cannot figure out the latest toys and gadgets
Anything I would get would just be a step back in time or a poor selection.
I would love to see a child smile or even hear them laugh
I know that the child will not be my blood but I pray that the Lord will send me His children to bring smile to

Snowy Thoughts

The snow is falling before the sun comes up
There are few people out
It is not too cold out
The contrast of the white snow coming down on the dark sky is a comforting contrast

Thought

The path to self-discovery can be a lifelong journey. By exploring our beliefs, values, and passions, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.
